Our doctor gave baby a delayed diagnosis to see his social skills. He has many red flags and has SPD but he holds eye contact and shows emotion. He sometimes speaks in weird wys and repetitive sounds when stressed to.
Every child is different. It is not uncommon for a child with ASD to have good eye contact and a wide range of emotions. If a child has delayed or unusual speech and repetitive behaviors, then it is usually worth the trouble to get a more complete evaluation and begin some sort of therapy.
If the speech catches up, then no harm is done. If the speech problems continue, then you will be happy you started early.
Aspergers is usually associated with above average speech, but below average social skills. For example, children with Aspergers frequently have trouble telling if someone is happy or angry just by looking at their facial expressions.
Repetitive speech is a type of repetitive behavior in a lot of ways. You might have to use an ABA approach to make headway against it.
You may want to look up Non verbal learning disorder, or the "new" diagnosis social communication disorder and see if it sounds like your boy.
