Hi, In a few months we will be taking my 2 year old, who has ASD, to a local beach for one week. Typically, he loves sand and water. Lately though, he has taken to running away and will run right into a dangerous situation (ex. Running into a pool, swings while people are swinging on them). My daughter wears the floaties even to the beach. She just doesnt quite get that the salt water will hurt her eyes if she opens them in the water like she does in our pool. Also bring the sand toys for him to play and I also recommend going early (like before 9am) when the water is calmer and there is less poeple there.

That is my fear, which is why I asked how to wrangle him a bit better. We are usually two on one with him, and have life jackets and a suit in which the life jacket in sewn into it. These are helpers, but I know to watch and be with him all the time.
Not trying to scare anyone but I'd be worried about drowning as a couple of family nearly died that way. I'm sure you'll watch your kid but drowning is the biggest single cause of death for ASD kids.
