Curly Hair Problems
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 3 year old daughter has the curliest hair. She hates for me to even touch it. This makes it so difficult to wash and condition her hair. Every time I try detangling her hair it's a meltdown. It makes it even harder when all she wants is baths, because I'm afraid she will hit her head in the tub. I need any suggestions or stories to help me out. Thanks!

My 3 year old daughter also has super spiral curly hair. I wash it in the bath but then take her out for conditioner. I set her up with some toys on the floor to play with then put a little bit of Nexxus Humectress conditioner in my palms and work it into her hair (don't wash it out). I then quickly make sections and brush with a Wet Brush, starting at the bottom and moving up, holding the hair so there is no pulling on her head. She hates it but it helps that she has toys to distract her and she is getting more used to it. I do this every couple of days.

Several of my friends with curly hair swear by the "curly girl" method where you wash your hair with conditioner. It takes a bit of time for the hair to adjust to not using shampoo and be prepared for it to look bad during this adjustment period. But after that, it looks nice.

detangling shampoo, finger combing it, maybe a little oil, use a cup during the bath for rinsing purposes, washing hair can be done less frequently so as not to dry it out especuially that type of hair.

Spray detangler (I use the Pantene one) or leave in conditioner and a wet brush. I use it on my curly long hair and even on my daughter's straight hair.

My 16 year old NT dtr has very curly hair. It was difficult when she was little onne thing I had to learn was NOT to shampoo everyday, but do condition every day. Them finding the right product. A lot of products really dry her hair out, she really likes a product we got at target from the Miss Jessie's line...multicultural curls I think. Good luck finding that special person, we are still looking :(
