My state offers In-Home Supportive Services to those whose disabilities are so severe that the only way they can avoid being institutionalized is having IHSS. I'm not sure if the parent can receive the stipend for IHSS, but I do know that a relative can. It's not very much money and probably not enough to be the sole income of a family.

It is all about the paperwork, it is not only the medical paperwork and evaluations but it is your finances as well. We applied for both children and it went through pretty easily. We did a phone interview and then an in person at the local office. We did send them all of the paperwork ahead of time so they could see everything.

We did have the doctors not only give us the RX but wrote letters on our behalf as well. We had the therapists do the same thing. One speaking with them we described how hard it was for us as a family and showed them a few tears it seemed to do the trick.

If all else fails you can get a lawyer

I think what you are talking about is being a PCA or person care assistant, and some states will pay parents to do that, but not all of them do. You would have to check with your state and see if they do offer it, and if they do it is not a lot of money we are talking about, but I would apply for SSI as well that will help. SSI is federal though it has nothing to do with the state but you will have to deal with your states office of SSI
