A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi can you tell me any information about DAN?? Like does it really work or not? Is it stressful for children?? What if you child is a picky eater, how would they get him to take vitamins or supplements?? Thanks!

I believe DAN can be helpful but my guess is only a third of the kids can make dramatic changes with some of the approaches. But don't have accurate testing to figure out precise bio markers. mB12 shots is something that is worth trying with DAN and was a wow for us. Another that I believe helped greatly was methyl folate and cholesterol. We give multi vitamins in orange or apple juice. Can combine with ABA / reward based approach as well.

Hi..my son has an appointment with a DAN doc next month. Its very controversial but the doctor said that one of her sons was autistic and violent. She said now after this therapy he is graduating college. The enzymes from that particular clinic come in powder form where you can mix with child's juice or milk. My sons pediatritian and the psychologist said I was wasting money but my son rarely eats, his digestive system is messed up and I am willing to try anything.

Small study was released at the end of May. Results were posted on Dr. Bradstreet's blog. Worth a look along with listening to the keynote lecture from Autism One all about it. If you want more info please private message me. Thanks!

Hi we just started seeing aDAN doctor. Most of tem will order blood tests for some reason Dr Giordano in foxboro didn't he gave us some vitamins and supplements. It's only been 2 weeks but starting to see little progress like less tantrums and he wants to use his words more. Noah is very picky eater as we'll I use medication syringes to get the vitamins into him you can get them only pack of 5 for $2 ( Amazon.com)

Definitely do your homework on any proposed treatment because while certain biomed treatments are starting to have some actual legitimate research evidence to support their effectiveness, there are others that are potentially dangerous. Our biomed dr. for example believes that the risk/potential benefit ratios for chelation and hyperbaric oxygen are not favorable. He will not perform nor recommend those particular treatments. There may be others, but those are the two he specifically discouraged.
