My son has been in kindergarten for two weeks. He is non-verbal. We have an IEP, he was observed in typical preschool -- I was told by all staff, principal, school psychologists, teachers, etc. that he would be great in mainstream school. It doesn't make sense.Since you have just started school, the only thing I can say is keep all the paper from I E P organized in a binder.Maybe see if you can get advocate as soon as possible.
Most likely it is because your child is in need of more care then they want to give. They may not be able to run the class the way they want to because your child is not as self sufficient than the rest. I have heard of these things happening because a child did not want to take a nap therefore the teacher could not have their break.
I would not let them just push you around, hold them to the IEP. Now if you can get your child into a better class with more attention I would do that if you could.
Thank you everyone! I absolutely want to do what is best for him and I did hire an educational advocate to help me navigate through this mess so that the school can't pull the wool over my eyes. My end game is make sure that everyone is doing all they can for him. I don't think they even have tried and I want them to take responsibility and fulfill their requirements. If this proves not to be the environment for him, I will certainly work to find out something better for him. But it looks like they haven't done their part. I appreciate everyone's thoughts -- Thank you!
It may be better. Its ok change is good sometimes
