Please, if there is any other parents who have gone in the direction of group home and have made some headway with it, let me know. I'm struggling so bad. My son has been away for maybe 6 months now. I don't even know. I need other points of reference to get perspective.
Thank you.
We have her home on the weekends and extra days on holidays, other than that she lives at a home minutes away from the school. The homes are run by the school
We have our daughter in residential she has been since she was seven and she will be mine in a few months.
It is a really tough choice to make but all the extra therapy she gets and the one on one until she goes to sleep has made a huge difference. As parents we are not able to handle the children in the same way because they have rotating staff and they are trained to deal with ASD children.
We tried everything first like after school therapy, meds and nothing really worked. Some children need the structure that only residential can give.
Just be sure you are sending your child to the right place, do your research and if there is a waiting list for the best place wait it out, trust me as hard as that is on the family it is worth it.
If you need any advice let me know, I also have a blog where I have told my story in detail.
