Mind never napped, goes back to the sensory issues we do not know about. Now that my son is 24 he tell me the horriable things in his head and how just the different sheets or blankets hurt him. He could scream for hours and hours.....I do not know how but they do have nightmares.....so I would leave the TV on low every night to calm the thoughts in his head.

Caseymae, I think the reason he goes to bed so late is because he needs a nap and talking in his sleep is an indication of that. My daughter talks in her sleep when she's over tired. Children who are over tired also go to bed later because they can't shut their bodies off because they are on a second wind.

My daughter has never napped since she was a baby.she had a lot of stomach issues, constipation & vomiting.Get to the root of the evil.Try probiotics, multivitamins if he is a picky eater and may be lacking nutrients.

No Children with Autism just have a more difficult time shutting down at night. My son has autism. I start earlier in the day turning off. I have a system. ONE being we have times for everything. we eat dinner at a certain time, take a bath at a certain time, we have to be in bed by 8pm we turn lights off at 10pm. it's all indicated by the sun. He will tell you the sun goes down, it turns orange, it gets darker, it turns black he's in bed. He will tell you... just last night he tried to prove to me it wasn't bed time but when he walked outside.... he got sad when he saw the process and reminded me.

Well my child never naps, and he cries before going to sleep, i think is because he is tired. Someone said that children need to Nap but believe me I have tried for years, finally it has come to my senses that some children with autism just sleep less than normal kids. In my case my if my son sleep straight 7 hours i am happy, believe there was a time when he woke up 6times per night... I guess with time you lear to appreciate that at least your child is sleeping at nights.
