Amalgam Fillings And Autism Severity
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

This article relating odds and severity of autism correlated with maternal amalgam fillings during pregnancy is interesting. http://bit.ly/1qtwsLH

Question:

How many fillings did you (mom) have while pregnant with your ASD child?

On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being severe) how would you rate your child's autism symptoms?

In one study, there were around 200-300 industrial chemicals/contaminants found in the umbilical cords of newborn babies, many of them known to be neurotoxic (such as BPA) and a few had been banned for decades. Hg, whether from amalgams, thimerosol, pollution, etc. is just one of the more studied one. I think what distinguishes ASD from normal isn't necessarily the toxic burden / exposure which is one factor (which has been shown as environmental risk factor in studies), but also reduced ability to deal with it as well.

No fillings on my teeth. Honestly cannot rate my child's autism. He definitely has autism and he is verbal.

No mercury fillings and my child started off as moderately impaired (biomed and ABA have helped her improve tremendously). No shots while I was pregnant and we follow a selective, delayed schedule with childhood vaccines. I was only 31 and at the lower end of the healthy weight range for my height. The one risk factor I did have was living within 1/4 mile of a major freeway during my pregnancy and my daughter's first year of life.
