Have you tried any clean diets (especially removing milk and processed/sugar foods). That worked the most for hyperactive and stimming behaviour for us when our son was 2 yrs old. Different child after that.
Red food coloring can really cause hyper manic behavior. It is in all kinds of candy, snack foods, processed food and medicines.
Oftentimes behavior issues need to be dealt with by getting the child some ABA. This is not a quick process though and you may see worse behavior at the beginning. If the child is really having issues sometimes meds are needed as well. There are so many meds out there they use know it is hard to recommend one. Sometimes it takes more than one and you will not know what works unless you try them.
If you have had the child tested and allergies and lack of nutrients are not an issue then you need to do more than just change the diet.
Ever try to wear him down with exercise. My daughter likes to play outside and I've had my kids on hikes on a nature trail. She doesn't stay on the trail well but we hold her hand if necessary. She runs away and likes to be chased. She's on medication now and I think it makes her sleepier but I'm not sure yet.
It sounds like you have experience with ADHD, so it sounds like this is more than what you have seen before. I agree with the first answer a bit. Keep an eye on sugar, gluten, and food dyes. With our son, food dyes are a particular problem.
We have also noticed ADHD after taking supplements (such as iron, zinc, and GABA) that are supposed to be "calming". Even vitamin D, which used to help, seems to be like giving him a big shot of expresso these days.
We have had some good luck lately with large doses of omega 3, but you might want to talk to a doctor to see what is safe. Finally, we seem to be having good luck with the hemp oil that is high in CBD (with no THC, obviously). I am not sure about that last one, but it might be worth a try.
