Does anyone feel that their kids are on medicine that they could do better if they weren't on it. I told my pediatric doctor that I wanted my son weaned off his concerta and he Lowered it to 18mg and he still doing wonderfully in school. He will be going to the third grade this year
My daughter has been on meds for a few years now and she definitely needed them to be able to stay calm and not hurt herself.
She has been in residential for almost two years now and has done great. All the extra help has done wonders and the doctor wanted to take her off of Seraquil. We were not sure at first be we agreed and they did it in stages. She has been completely off of it for a month now and she is doing ok. He did give us adderal for her if we needed that and we did use it at the beginning but have not had to use it the past two weekends.
She still takes Trazadone for sleep and Prozak for anxiety but at least she is off the strong meds now. We don't see her coming off the other two anytime soon but we are ok with that.
In the past we have taken her off of one and had to try another that is just how it goes sometimes. The trick is the combination of meds and therapy until you get where you need to be. You may find you can eliminate them all but you may find you can't.
@A MyAutismTeam Member Try meditating with him. Teach him to mediate and see what happen
Winnifred, we haven't made any lifestyle changes. They want to see how he does without Meds, and get a good baseline. They have tried quite a few drugs, but haven't found anything that helps him with anxiety and focus.
You are dead on Vicki. Doesn't work for everyone. What lifestyle changes did you make for grandson?
My 12-year old, non-verbal grandson did not do well on Meds. He had a very rough two years, exhibiting very high behaviors, such as wandering, wetting his pants, urinating in the garage, etc. The only thing he takes now is Chlondine (for sleep). I am relieved that he is off Meds..they just did more harm than good. Having said that, they do help some people, but it's a very individual thing.
