I Live In SC Do Anyone Know About The Medicaid Waiver And How It Works?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Daughter is 2 and I heard they start at 3yrs but stop at 5yrs. And the waiting list is years long? People are still waiting to receive therapy and financial help for children. This information has me terrified. Because out of pocket cost and co pays off insurance won't cover it for me.

That's not true. My son is 8 and has had a Medicaid Waiver for about 3 years. You have to apply and keep tabs on the application. Never take no for an answer and when doors close in your face...find a window! You should be able to call social services in your area and ask to speak to someone who works in the Medicaid department. The Medicaid waiver is a special type of insurance so they may redirect you but that's a great place to start. Tell them that you want to apply for it. Don't ask if they have it. You have to sound like you already know they have it or you will probably get bounced around from one person to another. Let me know if this helps.

Number of Children
 Almost 1540 children have received PDD services since the program’s inception
ï‚· 920 children are currently participating in the PDD Program
(641 enrolled in the waiver and 279 in state-funded slots)
ï‚· 1272 children are on the waiting list; 60% are age 5 and younger; only 10%
(125) are age 2 and younger, with two thirds of these (84) receiving services through
BabyNet
ï‚· Approximately 82% of all participants are male and 18% are female
ï‚· Approximately 73% of participants are ages 3-6; 25% are ages 7-10
I got this from there website and this is current as of March 2014....

@A MyAutismTeam Member I called the local off and went online to download there waiver summary chart for SC and it only covers specific services that they don't list..under a PDD diagnosis for ages 3 to 10..My daughter just turned 2yrs old and the Baby services they do offer right now is in home service 1 time a week for 30 minutes. After 3 sounds more promising but after 10 if the laws don't change she will be left to the side..Each state medicaid waiver services and age groups are different. SC has a long waiting list for specific services covered under the waiver. Free help only goes so far in this state.

It's okay. I'm sorry but I hope my answers were still helpful.
Social services is still a good starting point.
