Hi, can anyone tell me which is the best State for adult autism services? I am in Illinois and having a very difficult time. I should have hired a lawyer years ago but chose to get free legal help which was a big mistake. Please folks get an advocate! Educators with masters degrees will ignore your child and say " there is nothing wrong with him". It is a cruel and heartless world!
My husband is from PGH,PA.His children from first marriage are deaf and get all kinds of help in PA.
I live in PA. My son is 26, and finding help is always a struggle. OVR was great, but even that help runs out. It just seems like the best advocates are parents and answered prayers.
I think California has good services for almost everything.
Thank you
As far as adult services are hard to find as some professionals feel that Autism goes away after 18 years old. So you have research what is available in that state. Here in Maryland we've the Hussman Center for adults with Autism. They've classes, a social group for men/woman and a camp. My son attends classes, the social group and camp. He'll be volunteering there with a computer class aiding the teacher.
Here my other suggestions: the local community colleges/university and other agencies (Arc etc.)
