Does Anyone Have An Experience With Going To Social Security Court To Get A Decision For A Child On The Spectrum?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have an experience with going to social security court to get a decision for a child on the spectrum? I was wondering what the process was like. I am on my 2nd appeal for my son to get ssi and I have to either take him to court and get a chance at proving his case or let the office make a decision based off of what they think. Any information on it would be appreciated.

Please try the again so you can get what you need for your child. It's the government again. Did you make copies of what you submitted? If not make copies this time.

I live in Georgia, my ASD daughter is now 5 and we wanted a denial of SS disability benefits in order to get the Katie Becket Medicaid waiver. The last time I was in the SS office, the guy working there wanted me to resubmit everything again because they couldn't find the info we provided. He looked again and found it so we got our denial letter. It seemed stupid we'd have to it all again just to get a letter saying we won't get a nickel's worth of benefits.

It is not an actual court, it is an Adminastive Law Judge. There will be a Dr who is the opposition. It takes about 2 years to get a hearing. I would hire an Attorney. Social security oversees the pay so and you don't pay until your child receives his retroactive benefit.

Yes I've but my son was older. My suggestion is ask your lawyer. I really don't think it matters as it up to the judge. I don't recall how long the process was and your son sit there for it all? My experience that I remember was that the lawyer took me out of the office and we went back in to answer a question. I don't remember what it was. Yes my son did get his disability.
