If Your Child Has Received B12 Shots In The Past Or Is Currently Receiving Them, How Helpful Has It Been?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

What side effects have you noticed? Any significant regression noted if and when shots were discontinued?

Okay, this may be log but worth reading...

We stared MB12 (methyl B12 shots) back in December. We were first put on an every three day regimen. Once it was established after 6 weeks that he was a responder (90% of children are), then we did one more 6 week cycle but with an addition of supplements. We saw some good changes with our son's alertness, emotions, affection, some decreased anxiety, and cognition. I would say overall I saw 70% improvement (for the every 3 days, see below*).

With the good comes the bad of course, because all of your child's emotions will be heightened. They are now experiencing things differently and even more intensely than before so you may see more stimming, whining, or tantrums, but these all go away 4-6 months. Believe me the good is worth it and at least for us it's all been very tolerable.

We now have been doing the shots daily. If you want some advice about that please message me. It is a bit scary to think that you will be injecting your child, for most during the night while they sleep... but it does get easier and now my husband and I decided that it is best we do it while he is awake. We show him the needle even do a fake shot to ourselves then tell him to hug daddy and 1,2,3, it's done! He's such a champ, he never cries and barely flinches. There are nasal sprays but they are the second most effective to the shots.

Now that we do daily shots, I would say we have seen 85% improvement in areas, at our half-way point of this 6 week daily cycle. Now that does not mean that we don't have a far way to go. His eye contact has been so great! His patience has improved now being able to sit through 4 books on my lap. He understands some of what we say now, especially commands like (bathtime, brush teeth, bedtime)where before he had not a clue. He looks to us to play and grabs our hands to join him. He is still non verbal but is babbling much much more now. We are excited to see what more time will give us.

For a look at the daily changes (positive and negative) we saw in our son, please feel free to look over my cycle sheets on my site:

I can answer your question about what happens when shots are discontinued. My little one did MB12 shots for about 1.5 years and we saw an acceleration of her rate of improvement. Then our health insurance changed and the new insurer refused to cover them. The full cost was too much especially since our new insurance had a very high deductible and out-of-pocket max for all expenses. We didn't see any regression but we did see a slowing of her progress.

Yes, Dr.N is very passionate about his work. The paperwork they request is a bit extensive and I've seen some parents complain about it, but personally I like the fact that he requests a full history in order to review ALL of the possible contributing factors to best assess how to treat your child without doing tests that might not be right for you, which in turn saves you some money.

When you start doing research and start learning about all of the possible reasons (not only genetic) that could be a cause for why your innocent child has been affected, you start to loose a lot of trust in everyone and become a cynic. While at times I even questioned the shots, regardless of what you think about Dr. N or any other doctor, the results speak for themselves.

Some parents see an immediate positive change, while a small few sadly see none at all, we are in between. It took about the 7th shot in before we noticed things. The main thing I've learned and am still working on is patience.

I see my little Finn wanting so bad to learn, wanting so bad to communicate, I want to help him in that instant. I want to see big results, I want him to talk now, and be a typical kid. It's hard to hear 3-4 years until a possibly recovery, but you got to hang in there.

Our son is 2.5 so we're praying by school-age he'll be in a much better spot.

I wish you the best of luck with your appointment!

Do a search for methyl b12 and lots of prior responses.

We had slightly higher anxiety right after shot in the first week but was fine after. Our son was immediate responder, so we haven't discontinued. Haven't been doing the shots for 2 years.
