Yesterday supposedly my daughter (3 asd.) was able to answer a question in two sentences. But today when she was asked does she like to swim? She nodded did the dah dah dah Christmas? Does your kid have a fab day and the next just regress? :( it broke my heart. Breaks my heart that summer is in 2wks & no more preschool til sept.

This sometimes happens, our children can make progress and then regress. These things can happen for multiple reasons but I always tell people celebrate the fact that it happened at all. This is also a good sign that these types of things are possible.

My daughter is nonverbal and every time she speaks a word unprompted we tell her she did a great job. Sometimes we never hear the word again for months and sometimes she will say them again more frequently. To me this is an opportunity to key in on an area to put extra work into.

Do t get down because of these situations. Use them as a learning experience and celebrate them.

sometimes therapy offices have summer camp and this can help in many ways. Ask your therapist. your support coordinator should assist you with this matter.

Oh yes! My youngest went through the this. He's currently 6ys old and just finally started to say words! In the last 4 years, he's spoken few words and spelled them out with letters. It happens one day, then never again for 6 months or so; and this happened for about 3 years until the last (ohhhhh) 4 months ago that he started to consistently use his words and using letters to spell words. So don't fret-- as the other gals said, celebrate these moments. These children observe their surroundings a lot more than we realize.

We go on weekly grocery trips and he's been spelling words of departments from the grocery store (lol) and i didn't teach him that! He will spell dairy, fresh produce, meats, etc... So they're certainly looking and will express and share it when they're ready!

Absolutely, celebrate in the moment, my son always has ups and then downs, it is like his brain has to take some time to sort all this new info and put it in the right place , sometimes it's a day or several months.

I'm wondering why your daughter isn't in summer preschool for the month of July. The school has an Extended school year or sends to another school for the month of July. It is so the children will not regress during the summer without their therapy.
