A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I need advice what to do about a bad habit my son CJ has he likes eating grass and string. But he also likes to put everything he touches in his mouth but it's not as bad as it used to be. Like last year we went to my sister-in-laws house for Thanksgiving and he had got a hold of an triple A battery and bit it in two. From that day til now we keep an close eye on him. But anyway WHAT CAN WE DO HELP

Also my daughter LOVES frozen blueberries. She hates fresh blueberries. But lots of toddlers with PICA love love love frozen hard foods, like frozen peaches, strawberries. Its what our therapist recommended and it works.

Just had to come back and say something else i remembered that replaces my daughters urge to dirt.
Organic Raw Pecans. They are gritty and kind of taste like dirt. You can grind them finely or give them in pieces (or whole dependent upon age). Almonds too. They are very earthy tasting and she loves them too.

This is so he can safely explore foods and get the input he needs without eating grass and objects. And moderation is key. Obviously you wouldn't want him eating raw rice or ice chips all the time. But it will offer an outlet. Also give it or on a tray with two owls and a spoon for a scooping and pouring activity. For some reason if they think they shouldn't eat it they want to :)
