@A MyAutismTeam Member Hello, weve tried so many types of calming externally and internal methods. Once discovered meltdowns continued in severity until restraining her.... once able to verbalize it she stated it was the compression that calmed her. So for about 10 mins she will wear it and she hasnt had full meltdown since. In public and no vest to assist she stims but once she is home she will use her weighted blanket or vest for 5-10.
The school usually has this. Our son has been in special needs/schools and classrooms up until now but I think school is responsible. It can probably be put in IEP under accommodation. We did not have it in because they thought that he sat longer without it. found
Yes, external stress/emotional support...as a calming tool.
She doesnt wear it all the time. Not even used for focus or concentration. It is used as an external stress/emotional support. And when used maybe for 5-15 minutes. I am well aware what weighted vests are used for and I know how it benefits us and the safety precautions involved.
Hi, I'm in Ohio. It has been my experience the school supplies the weighted clothing! In our case, I think it hindered more than helped, though!
