Does Your Child Have An Autism Diagnosis Without Repetitive Behaviors?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When reading about repetitive behaviors and autism, I mostly see things such as "lining up toys", "sorting things by colors", etc. or they talk of stimming behaviors, "hand flapping", " finger flicking", etc.

So I'm looking for others who have an autism diagnosis who do not or are not affected by those types of repetitive behaviors. Anyone?

My son does sort and organize but he also hugs and enjoys physical contact which is atypical of autism. Just because someones on the spectrum doesn't mean they're going to exhibit every symptom.

@A MyAutismTeam Member that is exactly what I'm dealing with! Carter picks his nose till it bleeds. But I think we e talked enough about it that he's switch to chewing his lip till he bleeds. Every day.

Mia hasn't got repetitive behaviours of lining up things but she does have a couple of large habits. She chews holes in her clothes and her nose is constantly sore from her picking it. I suppose its what would be classed as 'stimming' behaviour really.

@A MyAutismTeam Member, you are right. Thank you for your insight. I've been struggling with Carters school and getting them to do an IEP evaluation. I finally got them to agree to it but they act like I'm "overreacting". So I feel like I need to be an expert at this and fully understand the spectrum in order for me to advocate.

I am preparing to transition to GF right now. And we will go CF in a month or so.

My son plays with his hair a lot (sensory need I assume) and rolls his eyes a lot as well. Repetitive questions too. He may ask, "oh is it snowing ?" And I'll say yes, and he will say "oh so it IS snowing then?" I'll say yes. He might say "oh just like a little then"?
It goes on and on...
