Has anyones child ever open and closed hands and looked at it. The more they looked at it the more agitated it makes them which leads to uncontrollable meltdown. Any information would help. Thanks
We use therapeutic putty (play dough) especially when my son is required to concentrate, it helps to keep the hands from being agitated. We also invested in some therapy eggs, similar to a stress ball but the shape is better suited to the shape of your hand. My son takes it with when we go out into a stressful environment. I changes the sensation they receive when open /closing their hands. Remember our fingers are programmed to be hugely sensitive to touch and various pressures. Will they allow you to massage their hands, also provides sensory input.
My son moves my body parts... My hands, pushes my head up and down and side to side, opens and closes my mouth. It doesn't agitate him though. He laughs. Good luck.
Just from experience I would say this is more sensory related than seizure related. This kind of thing is fairly common as a stim for our children. You have to think about the fact that our children do not see things the way we do and they also do not process things the way we do. It is always good to get the EEG but if you know you have a seizure issue it may not tell you anything other than what you already know. I would check with a neurologist but I suspect they are going to tell you it is sensory based.
I hope that you find out why it is happening soon.
Thanks for the response and input. I have spoken to the OT and she gave us some techniques. My daughter also has a seizure issue and this may be a symptom so we have also talk to neurologist and they will be doing another EEG. I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced anything similar.
