Are any parents facing future planning for residential placement for their adult autistic child? Are you concerned about the quality of life facing them in the future? Feeling some anxiety since I have heard some not so good stories.
Yes I have a Special Needs Trust too. You are correct kids will outlive caregivers. I agree we do need to come together and advocate for our children. I will check out the movie also.
We have a special needs trust so that if we have any money when we die, it wont take away their medicaid. but that doesn't solve the problem if they can't live on their own, right? They will still have to live in a home, which is your original question. Someone just did a movie about autism -- Jack of the Red HEarts -- and the producer (?) said she did it because our socieety needs to know about autistic kids, particuarlyl the ones who aren't gifted, and that she wanted everyone to know because we parents won't be able to care for them forever. The kids will outlive their caregivers. We need to come together and advocate.
About the movie, check it out -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jack-of-the...
