We are booked for a cruise on Royal Caribbean. They do have Autism friendly certification and I have notified them at booking. I do not want to change my booking to autism on the seas (I get concerned with 3rd party vendors). My question now is what should I kind of plan for on the port excursions? We are going Cozumel and Belize. Gabe is pretty well behaved, gets excited easily and not to many melt downs. He does not like to walk to much. If push comes to shove Gabe can always get a piggy back… read more
We didn't have problems with telling Royal Carribbean that our daughter had autism. She made some noise on the lifeboat drill but as a 4 year-old she could get away with it. The kids liked the playroom on the ship. We only made it to one port-Cozumel, Mexico before having to leave the cruise. It wasn't due to my daughter but a false health problem on my part. It was my worst vacation and I wouldn't want to take another cruise. Some people love em but it's not for me. I've been to a lot of countries and it was too touristy for me. Don't use your credit or debit card in Cozumel. Both were used for credit fraud and we were there only four days. We had to leave a restaurant that my wife demanded we eat because want my kids to eat breakfast. The kids were acting up most of the family left and I was the only to eat and it cost us $50! We did go to the beach Playa Palancar which wasn't that touristy compared to others. The taxi basically ignored what we told him and drove us to another beach- we left. This is obvious but keep an eye on your son in the water because I didn't see any lifeguards. My daughter jumped into a hotel pool but my wife jumped in to save her. She had never been in water over her head so when was pulled out she blurted out, "OH, MY GOSH. OH, MY GOSH!"
Sorry, I was on a Carnival cruise not Royal Caribbean.
