Moving To Pennsylvania
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband and I are thinking of moving from Florida to Pennsylvania to get better services for our son. He is soon to be 4 years old with high functioning autism. Can anyone tell me what are the best places to live ? Right now we're concentrating on Mt Lebanon, South Fayette and Monroeville. We'd consider other areas too.

I don't know how far you're willing to go but I live in Texas. We have some great programs here. My son is 4 and we've had him in speech and occupational therapy since he was 2. He is on Medicaid insurance and it was covered at no cost to us. When they turn 3 they can go I to a program called ppcd (preschool program for children with disabilities) and it's great! It's through the school district, so it's free. They have some that are exclusive to kids on the spectrum and no more than 10 in each class morning or afternoon, 5 days a week for 3 hours a day. The one I have him in is one of the few, that integrates NT kids with ASD kids so they get that social interaction and speech from their peers. The school district also has a parent trainer/ therapist for him come to our house every other week. The schools also provide free parent training twice a month or so. We also are on several waiting list through metrocare for aba therapy (they go off of your income for their fees) which is very reasonable. We fall into the category of anything less than 3k a month it's free and I think the next bracket is like $40 a month for 3k-5k take home before taxes. So not bad at all compared to insurance fees that don't even cover most services you need or want. I've heard that United health care will be covering aba therapy starting in January 2017. Definitely worth looking into. Just my two cents from Texas. Not sure what if any of that compares to other states or what you already have. :)
