What are some good books to read for autism? Still trying to learn information. Any recommendations also for behavioral and discipline? Thanks so much in advance
A book I recently read is "The reason I jump"...its written by a 13yo non verbal autistic boy...it gave me allot of good insight...only some things will pertain to your child depending on the age but it was very enlightening.
I strongly urge everyone with an autistic child that they love to read this book... I mean it it is must read it has changed our life in so many ways...

I would contact the autism society-either them or the autism society of nc-one of them has a list of books in their lending library you go down their list of books, tell them which ones you want and they mail them to you. When you finish, return them and pick more books out.
We have the Exceptional Children's Society here and they do similar stuff.
You said upstate SC, how about Chapel Hill or Duke in NC?
Let me know if you are still looking. I have more resources, but it is 5am now.
There is the NC autism registry where you give them a profile on your child-verbal or not, which meds they are on, etc. They will notify you when there is a trial(meds, exercises, questions. etc.
You can also contact Dr.Sharon Mitchell. That is what I did.
Good luck, and let me know if I can help.
