Regression In ASD
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Can anyone who has a child who would be classed on the sever end say that they believe their child significantly regressed?

Ie had quite some vocabulary or skills and lost these at a certain point.

Oh yes. Regression started around 2ish. Before he was waving hi and bye, blowing kisses, pointing at things when we asked....but all of a sudden it stopped. It was the first sign I knew he was autistic...like @A MyAutismTeam Member said regression is really common with ASD

My daughter has not been given a level yet but she is non-verbal which puts her on the lower end. She began saying words when she was about 12 or 13 months old but then she suddenly stopped saying them. From what I've gathered from parents on this site and from research is that regression is common in ASD. I have seen it happen with my daughter's behaviors as well. But the great thing is that they can take a step backwards and then go full steam ahead and make so much progression.

@A MyAutismTeam Member did he go through some kind of trauma? A shocking situation? PTSD? There is only so much our kids can take before they fry their brain. I have seen it in case of my daughter.

@A MyAutismTeam Member, you and everyone around your son needs to go back to what you did when he was at that stage and use all of the same successful techniques that you did before to get him back up to speed.

My son has regressed tremendously! I cannot put a pin in it on what caused this but now were back to preschool where he was in third grade. He also forgets everything now. It was he only forgot a few things before. So you constantly have to put a record on repeat everyday, I wish you well in your child though I wish I could tell you there is a miracle for this. Wishing and hoping .....my main motto lol.
