Do they help ground them ,and make social outings easier for them to handle?
I found out about the weight vest ,through a lady in urgent care ,I explained my son is on the spectrum, and is very attached to his back pack for some reason... Her reply to me was maybe he needs a weight vest to help ground him, also applying pressure to his joints may help...while in the office I removed his backpack( he freaked)..so I held him firmly by his elbows with my hands, standing behind him ,and bounce a bit not letting his feet leave the floor(as she showed me) ..he calmed down pretty quickly! ...I thought that was awesome! My son is 5 BTW..just thought I would share this technique I was shown
They say they do. My sons OT Therpist actually recommended one but they say if you want one for longer periods of time compression vest is better.. other than that I'm not sure I'm in the same Boat as you trying to figure that out so I could get one for my son! :)
