Hello. My daughter has just turned 3 and has been exhibiting a few red flags for autism. A month before she turned 3, we were able to get a general, overall health evaluation through 1st Steps with our state, and they pinpointed a few areas of concern (speech, OT, and some PT issues). Yes, get her evaluated for ASD by a medical professional and seek treatment outside of the district. PLEASE do not rely on school district evaluations! They tried to tell me my son doesn't have autism when 3 drs have all said otherwise. Plus, whatever "help" the school offers is not going to be enough. My son only gets like 25 minutes a week for ST πΆ
If you believe she has autism then she has to be medically diagnosed which will open doors to many future benefits.
Welcome to Mat Family
A psychiatrist who specializes in diagnosing autism did our evaluation, prior to 3. I have never figured out what other kind of MD could do the diagnosis especially in a young kid. We also had a speech evaluation, OT, and an ABA company evaluation. For ABA, I called and vetted at least 4-7 providers before choosing one to come and do evaluation. All of these reports will help to provide third party reports to your district to help determine services. Congrats to you mom for seeking answers for your daughter so early- many girls are not diagnosed until later.
She has already had an outpatient eval for speech by an SLP. We were wanting to also have her evaluated for OT, but is there a way to be evaluated for that and ASD all at once?
