Looking for recommendations on homeschooling in Georgia. What process did you go through and any recommendations on curriculum for kids with autism in Georgia.

Hello! I live in a different state, however, before starting the homeschooling process, our kids needed to be registered at the school they were supposed to attend. Also, we had to send a letter of intent to let the county know that we desired to homeschool them. I would advice you to go to your state homeschooling homepage, to know their requirements. In regards to curriculum, I used my son last IEP as guidance. From there, I just kept adding more subjects according to what I saw he needed to learn.

I hope everything goes well for you and your family!

thank you.. I have contacted the school board of education; and we did submit a letter of intent. I was also told that when this school term ends in May, I would need to withdraw her from traditional school. I guess now I would just have to find a state approved curriculum and go from there

Great! Some states have more regulations than others. In our case, we were in charge of coming up with a curriculum. We are required to keep a portfolio with all of his work and we have to keep a log of the daily educational activities as well. My son is 17, he has autism and intelectual disability. So, I adjusted his curriculum according to his level of understanding. He’s a visual learner, and because of it, I use flash cards to introduce new subjects to him, as well as worksheets related to the particular subject and then I find ways to apply what he has learned to everyday life situations. He has learned a lot! Homeschooling gives you the freedom to customize the curriculum according to your child needs. Starting the process might look intimidating, however, it’s not impossible! Once you start seeing the results you will realize that it was worth it!

I wish you and your family the best! God bless!
