My 14 year old daughter with autism likes to grab other's hands and either dig her nails into them or will squeeze your fingers together very hard. She does it both when she's happy and when she is agitated or overstimulated. I have a hard time interacting/playing with her because she does this and it is extremely painful. My son age 4 does this right now too, this hurts my hands to , I try redirecting best I can .
When my son was younger he used to scratch or pinch my skin and was always trying to wrestle - he has found better ways to interact with me and people. Lessons in gentle touch and strong hard touch differences and lots of photos and social stories about behaviour and lots of lessons on body parts and body and personal space and distance
When my son was younger (he is 17 years old now), he used to scratch his scalp, pull his hair when he was frustrated or couldn’t tell me what he wanted, needed or what was bothering him.
He really liked squeezing Play-Doh and silly putty. He used PECS to communicate.
