My best advice is to have the ABA provider come to your home to provide services so you can observe what they are doing. Please don’t drop your child off at a facility, trust must be earned & these agencies can be deceptive. I tell you this because I had some very negative experiences. Providers vary in experience, (some have very little training/experience) & you will want to be there to make sure he is able to cope with the process. Most ABA agencies will push you to provide the maximum number of hours, up to 40 hours per week & this can be very overwhelming. Let your child’s behavior be your guide to understanding how much he can handle.
ABA therapy is critical, especially with early intervention. It is meant to teach behavior not only for the kiddo, but for the family too. We've included our babysitters as well so they know how to respond to behaviors.
Some places will ask you to leave your child there and not observe or be involved in the process. Some places are crazy strict with attendance considering they work with kids that frequently have sleep issues. Some places will ask you to sign a contract to pay for more than what insurance provides. That said, it can be really helpful for a lot of kids. Especially with things like potty training. I would also suggest avoiding any places that try to run you off and don't let you observe.
That is very good and honest advice, thank you!
That is reassuring to hear! Thanks!
