13 Year Old Asd Girl Experiences Voices Anyone Else?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I'm not sure how to word this one but here goes nothing! I've approached multiple doctors for my 13 year old daughter who has asd and she says she hears voices that tell her to do bad things. I've had numerous doctors tell me this is normal for girls with asd, has anyone else experienced this???

I take anxiety medication which has helped greatly! 😊 Over time, I became less compelled to perform rituals, too.

Have you spoken with a doctor about this? Your daughter might benefit from an anti-psychotic medication such as Risperdal or Abilify. There is a lot of evidence that ASD is related to psychosis, namely schizophrenia, and one of the most common traits for that is hearing voices that instructs them to do things, etc. It can be a serious situation so I strongly recommend that you speak to a doctor or psychiatrist.

She's on anxiety meds and mood stabilizer and a strong calm down medication

Someone already suggested signing. Sometimes when my son gets overwhelmed and frustrated, we will do some simple signing and he seems to respond to it a little better. His frustrations usually come from needing help, so we sign "help" and it usually deescalates the situation.

Doctors are refusing to actually do the test to confirm. Anything they are throwing out there they say she's need to be 16 but even then it's iffy because apparently the autism will override any therapy they attempt
