Could be sensory, could be play, could be trying to avoid seeing something they don't want to see. Just look around for obstacles that could be a danger to someone walking with their eyes closed and observe to see if you can see any antecedents that come before periods of walking with eyes covered.

My son closes one eye, Lol! He still does that occasionally and will watch TV like that. He started squinting and closing one eye when he was about 2 1/2 which was around the time he started exhibiting other signs of autistic behavior.

Yes my son does that he’s 20 months and sometimes will run with them closed he just started it recently
