Our 5 year old struggled at his cousin's birthday party, that he asked to attend for a week. He seemed overstimulated. Sensory items only helped a little. I tried to offer him a break but he said no.He wanted to be there. He struggles the most in this type of situation. He understands a lot, and is very aware. We like to help him meet his needs in socially acceptable ways as we learned at therapy. A woman from my sister's church said "Is he Autistic or does he have Down Syndrome? We do not like… read more
This is so true. I also often answer by saying that he gets excited etc. It is hard to believe that an adult would behave that way. It did not come across as well meaning.
Has anyone ever heard of this or have any experience with it? My mother in law came across this new story and passed it along to me this morning...

Moving to the area. Can anyone recommend a school or pediatrician?
My son knows he has some problems. He was moved to a school that has a BD program. He wants to get better. He wants his brain to be normal. He feels alone a lot and needs to know he's not the only kid going through this. Are there any DVDs out there for him to watch to help him?
Wow you seen them in person! That's great!! I wish I could afford it. Maybe if they go on tour one day and come to west Virginia lol

Hi Everyone! Has anyone in GA, especially Northeast GA had any parent ABA training? Any suggestions? Thank you so much! I am not having any luck in finding an ABA provider near us (willing to drive 1 hour)...considering getting trained myself!
Thanks Lucy! I will check out the link.
Aba did not work for us so we use RDI. Www.rdiconnect.com.

I briefly tried Zoloft and his appetite got out of control and he already has a big appetite. So the Neurologist said maybe we should try this one. I'm so terrified of side effects of medications. Overall he is good but he is very impulsive. And in the spring or in general if he's not feeling well then we will get some bad behaviors like head hitting. That is why I… read more
I used to take guanfacine. It works really well for impulsivity. The only side effect I had was that it made me really drowsy. I had to stop taking it because it slowed my heart rate and my heart rate… read more
