What Are The Best Schools/school Districts In New }ersey Area For Asd?'
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My husband recently applied for a position in Union, New Jersey. He has previously been offered this position so there is a likeliness he will be offered it again. I am wondering what the best schools/ programs for asd children are. I have three one in preschool, elementary and one in middle school. My two older children get really good services now through school, but my youngest gets almost nothing. None of my kids get ABA service here so we will be looking for that as well. Any information… read more

Suggestions On Ski/Winter Jackets
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Winter/snow is coming and I don't know what winter jacket to get my son. He is still in a car seat so I like it to be thin and waterproof but keep him warm. He love putting jackets on and refuses to take them off even if his cheeks are flushed with warmth and we are indoors.

Has Anyone Overcome School Refusal/separation Anxiety With 9-10 Year Olds?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son fights to avoid school most days. Most days he runs from me at home or fights to get out of the car on the way to school. He clings to me in public. He fights to stay in the car at school. This year he has gotten aggressive with staff. We have an IEP and put a "behavior plan" in place. It as not helped. The staff thinks he is just trying to be stubborn and that he is fully aware of what he is doing. Usually after the initial morning meltdown, he is fine. Things are just getting worse… read more

I have thought about it. He does not handle change well and gets extremely upset thinking about a different school. I am not ruling it out though. He moves to Middle School for 5th grade next year.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you or rather did you have chronic inflamation or autoimmune disease when you had your ASD child? If you chose to have more kids, were they on the spectrum also?

A MyAutismTeam Member

Public School - Classroom Behavior Issues
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I need help with my 10 1/2 year old son who's having behavior issues in writing and social studies and I think it's due to his processing speeds. Can anyone recommend any resources I can get more information from? I'm a single mom of 3 kids, 2 with ASD and an ex who begrudges child support and works low wage part time jobs on purpose. I work full time but because I earn $50k a year I am not eligible for any assistance that I know of. I need to get my son some help at school.

Thanks in… read more

Broccoli Sprouts And Autism
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Why eating broccoli sprouts (raw) may be a good idea? One of the important ingredient in it is sulforaphane which showed efficacy in a small double blind ASD trial that was recently published. 50% of the kids in treatment group responded with significant improvements (social, more normal behaviour and verbal language); none in control group. It is a powerful and very promising antioxidant with many different properties that is under research.

Anyone Know Where I Can Go For Help With Finding A Safe And Happy Place To Live?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I desperately need help finding a safe and happy place to live for me and my daughter. I work in South San Francisco and housing programs say I make too much money to qualify. I barely bring in 2,100 a month and I have a car payment, cell bill, and daycare that takes up most of my check. Anyone know where I can go for help?

A MyAutismTeam Member

I'm not familiar with your area, but have you tried 211? From what I understand, daycare assistance is easier to get than housing assistance, in my state anyway.

Good luck. I hope you find the help… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son will be turning 5 this December. He was just recently diagnosed with autism and language disorder. He does have a short attention span and does not pay attention to things that do not interest him. He also has been having staring spells. Also seems to forget a lot. What vitamins would be good for his short attention span and brain development? I want him to be more aware. I need a vitamin that can go with a multi-vitamin and will be safe. I do not want to give him fish oil because of… read more
