There are a couple of great books I would recommend picking up; "Thinking in Pictures, by Temple Grandin; Look me in the eye, by John Elder Robison; Freaks, Geeks & Asperger's, by Luke Jackson.
The latter is a great book for kids as well! Pick up any of these books and you'll love each one!
I really like "10 Things every child with Autism wishes you knew." It has some great perspectives and is simple reading written by a parent.
For an interesting book written by an Autistic, explaing "meltdowns", I liked Deborah Lipsy's "From Anxiety to Meltdown: How Individuals on the Autism Spectrum Deal with Anxiety, Experience Meltdowns, Manifest Tantrums, and How You Can Intervene Effectively".
For tips on teaching and helping our kids: "Reaching and Teaching the Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Using Learning Preferences and Strengths" by Heather MacKenzie
For an authoritaive view of Autism: "Overcoming Autism:Finding the Answers, and Hope That Can Transform a Child's Life, by Lynn Kern Koegel, Ph.D, and Claire LaZebnik
Finally for those parents that have their child on a Gluten/Casein Free diet, here are the best of many cookbooks I like:
"Gluten-free Girl: How I found the Food That Loves Me Back...& How You Can Too." AND "gluten -free girl and the chef: a love story with 100 tempting recipes" by Shauna James Ahern, and Daniel Ahern.
This one taught me a lot! "Artisanal Gluten-Free Cooking" by Kelli Bronski and Peter Bronski
Finally for quick recipes you cant beat "quick-fix gluten free" by Robert M. Landolphi.
All of these books and more can be found at Barnes and Knoble.
There is a books I would recommend. All Cats Have Aspergers. It is very simple but to the point. It explains how our kids feel.
I would recommend "Engaging Autism" by Stanley Greenspan. He talks about using floortime play to help your child climb the developmental ladder. Also "Raising a sensory smart child" is excellent. Good luck!
