Glad you are covering all the bases. My son was diagnosed by a Developmental Pediatrician when he was 30 months old, then I took him to a 2nd opinion diagnosis w/a Neurology pediatrician who confirmed the diagnosis and highligthed my son's strenghts to make sure the school and insurance pay for appropiated therapies. However, by the time he was 4 y/o we moved to WI and I found out that none of those diagnosis had the insurance code and the psy axis. So we had to take him for a 3rd diagnosis. I took him to WEAP (I think another answer also mentioned these people) they are specialized on autism per set. The Psychological evaluation was very deep and answered me a lot of my personal question about developmental levels. After it WEAP evaluated my child year after year to monitore his development until this past Sept when we moved to FL. I just called last week to set his annual developmental evaluation w/a group of psychologist here in town... I really believe a psychoogical evaluation give more information...
we had a full psychological evaluation done and too she knew within her first half hour with him and the rest of the test results just confirmed it all
We've been all over. Clinical psychologist (SID w/ ADD), psychiatrist (ODD) ....you name it, we've been there. The best evaluation we received, and the one I felt really took the whole picture into account came from our Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician. She really hit the nail on the head instead of the glancing blows we took from the others. She directed us to behavioral psychologists who specialized in the ASD and even suggested genetic testing (which I'm still mulling over). She's been great.
My son was diagnosed by a Pediatric Neurologist at the age of 6. The doctor was so good within 5 minutes of talking to my son, he looked up at me and said he is classic Asperger's. Since then my son was rediagnosed with just Autism so he can get help through the Regional Center.
