This might be more for the parents of older children, even those who have graduated high school and started looking for work, but has a childhood obsession (i.e. drawing, computers, video games, etc.) turned into a potential career path or interest for higher education? I am still wondering how Eleanor's great interest and knowledge about tornado sirens might lead to something...She is still 12. But I did have an autistic student at my school in the last few years who had great skill in drawing and animation. He was offered positions based on his portfolio before he had graduated from high school (which was still an effort for him).
My niece is obsessed with Adventure Time and zombies. She writes lots of fan fiction in her journals, and she always begs me to write stories even though I am not very familiar with the things she likes.
My daughter is obsessed with numbers and letters. If she thinks she is not being watched she will spell out things on books and such. She also watches the microwave and counts down with it.. 5.4.3.2.1. I do not know many 3 year olds that can master that. She is so precious.
my 12 year old is an extremely gifted artist. He started by copying cartoons and VHS/DVD covers, then he copied fonts, then he drew trains and trucks, and now he does all of that and more. He can get the shading, depth, all those artsy terms I don't know, ha ha - anyway he gets it all just right - it is AMAZING!
He carries a clip-board everywhere we go with tons of paper - and he copies license plate numbers, and when he gets bored with that then he draws. He always has a pen or pencil in hand. Always. : )
My daughter loves to draw, she is a great artist, she mainly sticks to certain animals like raccoons, beavers moose.
