Anyone Had Any Sucess With Speech DVDs For Non Verbal Toddlers

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Los Angeles, CA, CA

I am currently looking for dvd's to help my 3 year old non verbal ASD son with his speech, learning body parts, etc. Was wondering if anyone has tried a specific brand that has helped. I have found many online but they are expensive and I'd like to know of any success before I purchase. THANKS!

Members shared experiences and recommendations for helping nonverbal toddlers with autism develop speech skills, with several pointing to Baby Babble DVDs as an engaging and effective resource available on Amazon. Many members emphasized the importance of patience and working alongside speech therapy rather than relying solely on expensive products, with several sharing that their own children began speaking when they were developmentally ready, sometimes not until age three or older. A recurring theme was using multisensory approaches like tickling body parts while naming them, incorporating sign language, exploring visual tools like Q cards, and considering at-home programs such as rethinkautism.com to supplement professional therapy without breaking the bank.

There is a site called NLC where they sell alot of stuff for Autism needs. Q cards or books may be better because they will visulise the pictures. They may be easier to pull our and use again.

My daughter is going to be six in a few weeks and is still non verbal, we have been told she may never speak. She does vocalize all the time and a few words may come out here or there but nothing put together. I would not spand lots and lots of money on these things, work with speech therapy and work with words that your child does try to say and build upon them. The fact is that your child will only speak when they are able to. My son was non verbal till he way 3 1/2 and now he is 7 and has a great vocabulary, we just took it slow and when he was comfortable and able to he spoke.

Baby Babble 1 and 2 were great for us. There are on Amazon. They are simple but really engaging.

Angelheart, my non-verbal 3.5 yr old son just learned his body parts. His therapist and I tickled his knees for "knee", and his tummy for "tummy". This was followed by a reward. He's still struggling to speak. He'll say "arm", but he points to everything else. Have you looked at the website www.rethinkautism.com ? It's an at home ABA therapy program. It's so much cheaper than paying the therapist. I supplement with it. Man, this getting them to talk thing is rough, isn't it?
