I'm going to need to work to pay for therapy for my children and I have no one to watch them or care for them while I work. If anyone has any ideas of where I can start my research, I'd appreciate it. (I live in Washington State but can, and probably will, relocate back to Utah.)
Does your child(ren) qualify for TEFRA Medicaid Coverage? It doesn't matter how much YOU make, as long as they don't have assets worth more than $2,000 in their name. (Trust funds, bonds, etc.) We are in the process of applying for monies now. I don't think this is a program unique to SC.
I am not sure if you have a college or university near you but we once checked with a local university. We asked for anyone whom was going to school in fields related to care of those with special needs (special education, psychology, therepists ect.) Just an idea.
You could try the local Universities. I have had good luck finding quality students to help with care. You could talk with the education department and see if they have anyone who might be interested. You could also look at sittercity.com and see what is there and if interested signup for membership.
We advertised in the Special Ed Department of the local college, and got a good response from two SpEd teachers to be. By good response, I mean both actually came back to watch Luke and Kate a second time, at least.
My two cents? Find home day cares, if you can. Many providers start their home day cares, because the state is notoriously not supportive of special needs care. I used to run one in VA Beach and know one that still exists there, but they are hard to find, I know.
