I am looking for a new doctor for my son. I need to find a Developmental Pediatrician who specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders in Toronto, ON. His current doctor does not specialize and refuses to give me a referral. Is there anyone you guys could recommend? A doctor that is willing to take new patients without a referral? Thanks.
Can you be more specific about what you are looking for in a developmental ped? Why can't you get a refferal?
Because we have recently moved, and the doctor who diagnosed my youngest with mild ASD didn't give us any paperwork on it, we're having to go through the diagnostic procedure all over again. Emma finally had her evaluation today, and it was a GOOD day, so she was actually relatively calm about things, and interactive. I told the evaluator about it, but after she saw Emma for a few minutes she came out of the room and told me she's absolutely not autistic because she is able to speak. She also… read more
All the time. It's a major problem, especially with females, and worsens with age. I strongly recommend asking to have records transferred from the "good" doctor to the new one.
we just moved back from a long stay in the middle east and our son is autistic with ID and he is now 25 years old. we live in virginia now and looking for any program that can help us place him even if it is a private as all the state funded has a long waiting list. so we can pay for his placement until such time we get the waiver approval. please help us if you you have a name or a resource of a consultant to guide us through

How do u know if your child needs ABA?
It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT

Well I'm feeling a bit stuck
My son has just turned 6 years old
He has been diagnosed with a general moderate learning disability.
When he started school me and the teachers felt that there was something a bit different with him
So we decided to go for an autism assessment. He was first assessed by the educational psychologist. Who diagnosed him with a learning disability. Overall the whole autism assessment process took about just over a year.
I received the report from the paediatrician who… read more

My daughter and 2 of her classmates will soon "age-out" of our state's education program for special needs children. They have "behaviors" that will prevent them from obtaining and keeping a job. There are also no affordable facilities or programs for young adults in our area. As a group we would like to develop a program similar to the one they have at school but lack the funds. I've researched online but was only shown sites to obtain funding for chartering a school which is not what we… read more

I’ve heard that too much screen time causes autism. And that you can improve autism by spending more time with your child.
Screen time does NOT cause autism. Autism starts in the womb, caused by nothing other than the fact that we are all created to be who we are for a reason 😊 The world needs neurodiversity! Screen time… read more
