Need as much information on what are some of the approaches that have worked for anyone who has gone the homeschool route. The information out there is so much and so unorganized that it's hard to make an informed choice. I feel that the more I read, the more confused I am. Thank you!
I am a home school mom of two and we tried the virtual academy thing and it just was not a good fit. We use an eclectic approach and I have tons of resource to share with anyone interested ... too many to list here. But if you contact me we can chat and I will share anything that would help you and your child... Best advice .. The 1st year is the hardest ... DON'T GIVE UP .. It gets easier :)
A lot depends on what kind of learner your child is. Our son is a kinetic learner which means that he learns best with hands-on activities.
My favorite curriculum for Geography, History, and Science are Intellego Unit Studies. You can find them on Currclick.com where they have several bundles that can save a few bucks or they have their own site IntellegoUnitstudies.com
We use McGuffey Readers I downloaded for free of a great site I found. I make my own flash cards and other activities.
For teaching English, we use some materials I got from St. Aiden's Homeschool on Currclick.com
Math we use Math Mammoth. They offer two kinds of curriculum. One traditional and one where they teach using real life situations.
If you contact me through my email, I can give you a list of entire curriculums that are free on the internet or I'm willing to help you get started however I can. [[email: [[email: [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)
We've been homeschooling now for close to five ears. Our son is 10 now and doesn't want to go to public school! He loves the idea of not having to do work at a group schedule. When he's done with a subject for the day, he's done for the day. If we want to take a day off and go to the park or zoo, we do it. We are able to make our own schedule, including vacations which help with cheaper gas prices and expenses all around! There are also curriculums out there that are everything from free to super expensive too. I home schooled my children for 2-3yrs. In order to find the right curriculum you need to research and learn your child's "learning style". I joined PICC LEAH which has a great lending library. As well as going to homeschool conventions, most curriculum distributors give out free samples of each subject plus have testing tools to see what level is appreciate.
Look for curriculum that incorporate social stories and your values. Www.leah.org go to the special needs tab and it takes you to piccleah
