I wanted to add that I've seen some families get amazing results from the biomedical approach, while others have spent tens of thousands of dollars with no significant improvement. From my observation, the best candidates are younger kids and those who are moderate-to-high functioning.

We use the biomedical approach to treating autistic symptoms. My son has the digestive issues and I have him on a good nutritional support plan, which is dietary intervention which eliminates the food allergies. We also use the vitamins, oils (cod liver and other omega's and probiotics to help with his needs. It's made a very big difference in his life. Keep in touch with me if you would like more info.

My son is 6 years old(june 27th) and we have been seeing a DAN DR since he was 2 1/2. Make an appointment with a DAN DR. its not a cure but it def helps then The best thing you can do is start GF/CF diet today. don't wait and don't faulter, even when he's going crazy and screaming for his favorite foods and won't eat anything. Weather the storm because it gets better. You will be so happy you held strong.

If you would like a good overview of the biomedical approach, I would recommend reading Dr. Kenneth Bock's "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics". Another good one is Dr. Bob Sears' "The Autism Book". In terms of the DAN dr.'s, most of them do not accept insurance so going that route can be *VERY* expensive. We were lucky enough to find one about an hour away who is a network provider. Not all the tests or treatments he recommends are covered by our insurance but at least our visits to him are. The self-pay rate for his clinic is a whopping $700/appt.! We have seen significant improvements since starting in on some of the supplements, particularly acetyl-L-carnitine, Coenzyme Q10, and DMG.

Yes please listen..... Everyone's giving grat advice. It's all true! The younger the better the results. My son was non verbal utill we got to the bottom of his gut issues. Now at 13 there are most days I can't get him to stop telling me what he wants. Not all that much fun either - lol but we remain gf do some basic omegas probiotics and vitamins, and when he goes off of them there is a negative impact w some level of regression that an outsider (school neighbor) will comment on. So it helps, yes he is still autistic, but gennerally available to learn. Less completely overwhelmed by sensory distegulation
