If I Marry Will My Child's Medical Get Taken Away?

I'm new here so I'm not sure how this works. I've been searching for months to find an answer to this question. My daughter is 4 and is on the spectrum. She also has major feeding issues some most likely from the autism and some from her having her cleft lip and palate and all the surgeries (or so the doctors say). She has a g tube, chronic lung disease and was born with her intestines and liver outside of her body. So she's been through a lot. Anyway, I got engaged 6 months ago and I need to… read more

I have a teen son from a prior marriage. He did not loose his Medicaid. His dx did not change but they did look at the income of the entire household. Unless you will be very well off I do not think you should worry too much. But no matter it should not change your plans for your own life. If you found the right one then everything should work out together.

If you receive Medicaid as low income now and your household income goes up, then there's a likely chance that your child will lose it--that depends on total # of dependents, etc. BUT if your child is receiving Medicaid through a waiver program then they only look at the child's income. I have clients all over the country and every state is different with their waivers. You MUST make sure your child is receiving the waiver or on the waiver list (some are years long) so that their Medicaid is never tied to you and your income (and household income) can go up or down without this being affected. SSI is a different story and will be affected by more income in the house no matter what--no waiver there. Be very careful with this. I hope this helps!

Were you able to get your child covered through a waiver? I’m in the same situation and not sure where to go! Thanks for any info you can give me. I live in Ohio as well. Thanks again!

They only need to test her. Parents have the option to be tested as well but most of the time the insurance will not cover to test the parents unless you are planning to have more children together. they only need about a Tbsp. of blood from the child and the test comes back in about 6 weeks.
