We started a course of treatment and we wonder if other parents have tried such a program and what results you achieved through it. I don't want to stir up a treatment controversy, just wanting to hear from parents what program you tried and what your results were.
My son has had tubes for 3 years and we thought he suffered from hearing loss for a time but it turns ou his hearing is hyper acute. We know that now that we started the GAPS diet and he doesn't have fluid behind his ears anymore. Also, he couldn't sit still for 30 minutes much less keep headphones on prior to Son-Rise so this would not have even been a possibility prior to now. I'll let you know how it goes we are using www.aithelps.com. Their program is costly but it is something I have noted with my son since he was about 2 years old. All of his early intervention therapists agreed with me too that he has trouble processing auditory input and doesn't process information in a typical way. This is supposed to help his brain make the right connections so he can filter sounds that are important from ones that are not. He might hear a train 3 miles away as loud as a hair dryer by his head. So, these sorts of things are really challenging. I even heard it said by an Autistic person who learned to communicate learning the computer that their senses and perceptions are often difficult to manage. So, I have thought about this for a long time and finally took the plunge to try it. I have not heard of vision therapy but that's another great idea! Do you have a link to more information about vision therapy?
I've heard of vision therapy but not this I may be interested as e are convinced chris has hearing issues too.
Is that what Therapeutic Listening is? We have been doing that with our OT since June and have had amazing results in a decrease auditory defensiveness and the anxiety that accompanied all of that. Also, my son FREAKED OUT at the mere sight of headphones prior to the program and now he is very accepting of the headphones and even hats and hoods on his head, which seemed like a random plus from doing the program.
"Auditory Motor Mapping Therapy" has been well-researched for decades, documented and can be found by doing a google search. I found a many peer-reviewed articles that shows this type of therapy has strong positive results for nonverbal autistics.
