Hello MontvilleMom,
I actually took a tour of Beginnings in Fairfield and my son has an intake with them on Thursday. they have one more opening in their Kindergarten class and hopefully my son will get in. What I liked about the school is that they use VB and ABA therapy which has been very effective for my son. Also, in the class that I observed, there was 8 aides for 11 children. They also use positive reinforcements to address negative behaviors. Once I take my son to the school on Thursday, I may be able to give you a little more information.
@A MyAutismTeam Member we actually took a tour of NB shortly after posting the question. We took our son right away for the intake and they also told us that there was one spot available. After the tour we knew our district would never be able to provide these types of services and therapies. We accepted the placement before leaving because we did not want to lose the spot. He starts Dec. 3rd.
The few people we spoke to also gave good reviews about NB. Hopefully this is what we both need for our children. Maybe they will be in the same classroom.
We have not gotten a call from the district yet regarding busing.. But they always wait until the last minute. It's been over a week since we accepted the placement so they should of had enough time to get his busing set. I planned on calling this week to make sure.
We took an advocate with us to our school meeting to get placement and she suggested that we drive Ronnie until the bus gets worked out so he could start ASAP. I hope you get busing real soon.
We have to stay in touch. I hope they will be in the same class. If everything goes well at the intake on Thursday, our son will be able to start next Wednesday. Have they worked out the bus situation for your son yet or will you have to drive him for a week?
