How much effort do you put into teaching friendship skills? How much do you orchestrate the process? What role do you play when those friendship moment begin?
@CBP, thanks for that. I was just reading in Winner's book that joint attention, is followed by gestures and then parallel play turns into interactive pretend play which later becomes group imaginative and cooperative play. As NT children move through these developmental stages they learn skills to help them deal with a typical classroom. I see the neighborhood kids involved in some elaborate cops and robbers type stuff. I don't think my son has any idea how to fit in there.
