there is a great divide between what all the professionals in my son's life think is wrong with him. i have heard he has autism ( which i agree with) to he is bi-polar. it is frustrating since i feel that we are wasting time to help him. he is 13 now and is really struggling getting the social ques and the friend aspect of school. what is the best place to start since there is so much confusion about my son?
his anger/ meltdowns are getting him into trouble at school.

The anger/meltdown issue would be my first priority. A competent behavior therapist (ie ABA) should be able to identify the cause for his behavior and suggest methods for both parent and child to deal with that behavior.
I would keep a detailed behavior log at home. It can be a simple note each day "had a good day", "good attention span in class", or "had a difficult time focusing on math", "seemed very agitated this morning, but calmed down after lunch time." My child (with autism) seems to have patterns of behavior and with enough record keeping, I can usually see a reoccurring theme like 'cranky each day around 11am' which can lead me to understanding that I may need to ask if he wants a mid-morning snack.
My son also has trouble with social cues at school. A good speech therapist could assist with either structured group therapy sessions or provide guidance during typical periods of interaction (ie recess or class time) with peers. I find my son responds very well to social stories. If he can memorize enough typical scenarios, then he has a frame of reference to fall back on when he is in an unpredictable situation which can be any social encounter. Perhaps having this skill can reduce anxiety.
I get a variety of opinions on an issue. Do your best to make an educated decision based on what is right for your child and your family and then go for it. Keep good records, an open mind, and an emergency stash of chocolate!
my son seems to be better in school they have a resource room and i have noticed that if he doesnt skate he is a grumpy child, so i have been trying to get him to a skatepark however this is a challwenge right now since we have a foot of snow in the ground and being a single mom barely working the cash is hard to come by, howqever i found out that his couselor maybe able to help with funding half of a season pass for him where he can skate for free for six month. crossing fingers that comes though for him.
@gamomof3 i totally understand your plight, last year was a horrible experience with the school he was in, they wopuld call me everyday four or 5 times to tell me what he did now, often i had to go pick him up from school i lost my job because of it. Iam a single mom so i had no one who could handle a meltdown, my dad was willing but i often found he would only last a few minutes before he had a enough.
the school had told me some horrible things about how he could not handle life and that he was more EBD and not autistic ( even after testing). recommeded that i put him in the school for juvnile delquents at the local police department because that was were he would end up anyway. we did move schools this year and no he didnt go to local police department school. i understnad your frustration with it...
@A MyAutismTeam Member i totally agree although he is iin public school but a special setting which has been awesome for him. (so far) he loves it there and has less issues there and when i met them to sign him up and get his iep set up they were confused by the one that was transefered since it was illegal (which i didn't know)
It's totaly ridiculous how these schools treat kids with disabilities, it's either they are main stream or troubled kids and what i don't get is how can these people have special ed when no one has a clue how to handle them and are uneducated about different disabilities.Hopefully next yr will be better and put them into a private school, I'm very disappointed in the public school system in regards to these kids.
It's hard being a single mom with a child with these kinds of disorders, i have 2 of them at home, my parents try to help out but my dad has hard time with it and my mom cries over them,dn't know what to do to help him nor my daughter. I tell my kids that god sent them to me and that are my children...
