I have heard that in 05/2013 they will be removing Aspergers and PDD-NOS from the DSM which basically then means that these children are no longer on the Autism Spectrum as they are too broad.
The diagnosis is not in the book but the way the new DSM-V is worded most current asd aspie pdd-nos rhetts etc children should remain on the spectrum. However you can self identify as such or keep your current diagnosis. This was heavily discussed and I've read several articles on it in the past year even discussing it with a autism psycologist while my daughter was being evaled thy said no but I'm thinking of getting a second opinion as her echolalia is getting more prominant.
We've had lots of discussion on this point, and your summary is not correct. If you peruse through the archives you'll see lots of thoughtful, factual information.
