Has Anyone Tried Cyrex Labs To Check For Gluten Sensitivity? Do You Recommend It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has reflux pretty frequently. I am not sure if he has pain or any other discomfort because he is a little over two years old and doesn't speak much. He doesn't have any other stomach issues (diarrea, constipation, vomiting, etc.). He also has ezcema. He has a pretty limited diet and I would like to make sure he is gluten sensitive before I put him on a gluten free diet. He is already in a casein free diet. I found out about Cyrex Labs while doing some research online. I would appreciate… read more

FWIW, my DD was tested for celiac twice (2nd time with the extended panel) and also twice for wheat allergies because she was off-the-charts small. She had no obvious GI problems. Both times everything came back normal. However, when we took her off gluten, within 6 weeks she had a dramatic "catch-up" gain for both weight and height. Last December she wore a size 18 mos at 2 yrs. 11 mos. By April, she was in a 4T. My point is, the lab tests did not pick up on my DD's gluten intolerance so I would just do a trial of the GF diet rather than wasting money on possibly inaccurate testing.

Thanks a lot moms, for all your answers and helpful information. I think I am just going to try taking him off gluten and see what happens. Hope you all have a great day! :-)

I am not sure what labs we used, but I think we just went with whatever our insurance company required. The IgG results were not conclusive, so we had to run an IgE test to determine if it was a 'real' allergy. I don't think the lab was the issue, though. We just didn't know enough to ask for the IgE test in the first place.

celiac blood test only tests for the disease, but can't pick up on allergies and levels of sensitivities. the amount of gluten in his system at the time of the test can be a factor as well. its very possible to come out negative but have a serious allergy.

we have always used great plains lab so i can't offer any advice on cyrex. i will say that from what i understand there really is no test for "sensitivity". there is the standard assay labs for celiac disease but a positive result usually won't show till the kiddo is older (around 6 or so). not an expert in lab testing by any means, just relaying what i have been told by our docs. think about eliminating gluten and see what happens. for us, it was a game changer. took about 2 months to see full benefit, but i will never go back!! good luck.
