Looking For An Advocate In MA
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am looking for an Advocate in Mass that has experience in insurance and locating programs for ASD kids. I have been on a ton of sites but can not seem to find any info on advocates and where to find one. Thanks!

I have an IEP review meeting next week so I will bring it up. Good point. I checked into the DDS site and downloaded the application. I have all reports on him so it should be easy for me to apply. It's worth a

Unfortunately they do not but most of the time the school system takes care of ABA. During an IEP meeting we discussed how the in school ABA was not enough for our daughter so they agreed to give it to her after school, and they hired Beacon Services to come to the house after school. You may want to try that to.

This is great info. Thank you so much! I will check into DDS and see if I can get my son to qualify for services. We have mass health as an insurance for him now but was told ABA is not covered. And that is the one therapy he really needs. Thanks!

We have used an advocate in MA and her name is Gayle Green, I believe she is out of Fitchburg, and she is great. She is very proactive and aggressive with the school system, and she gets things done. Other than that I would suggest that if you have not contacted the Department of Developmental Services I would do so, they will assign you a case worker if your child is accepted after you fill out an application. We have a case worker named Amy and she is great.
Just for an FYI to get services through DDS you are going to need all of your child’s medical paperwork, any testing results that have been done, diagnosis and things such as that. Both of my children got accepted, and the case worker will tell you what services you can get and how to get them. My children are both on SSI (Which you have to apply for federally) get Mass-Health, and my daughter gets 3hrs a day after school ABA that the school pays for. DDS also paid for out advocate when we needed her.
Through our advocate we got the school system and the state to pay for our daughter’s residential treatment that she needs very badly at the cost of $300,000 a year so it is well worth contacting the state agencies. Let me know if you need any more info I would be glad to give it to you.
